Slumdog Millionaire..

This wouldnt be a new name to many of you out there at this point of time. To others, its the title of a movie by Danny Boyle about the slums of Mumbai, which managed to get 10 oscar nominations.

We watched the movie a month back and i shud say its really amazing.

It says the heart felt story of a slum dwelling chaiwala boy Jamal, who hits the jackpot by winning the indian version of "Who wants to be a millionaire". The movie starts with the police interrogating him to find any kind of cheating involved. The subsequent scenes in the movie depict how each day in the slumdog's life becomes the clue for each answer.

Special mention goes for A R Rahmans music, which is so emotionally intertwined with each and every scene, that it kind of gives a whole new life to the movie. You can rightly say that the music keeps the movie going.

The movie has successfully portrayed the serious issues facing our country like poverty, religious riots, child and women abuse, in a subtle manner and simultaneously bringing in a warmth of love and romance through out.

Overall i shud say its an excellent, must watch movie.

Today i happened to read an article about how the millionaires and film actors of India consider the film as being offensive for showing the dark secrets of the country.

Is there a problem in showing the truth to the world? I personally dont think any of the stuff shown in the movie is made out of thin air and I feel more of such movies shud be made to bring to light the real face of our country. Moreover, dont you think we had enough of rich millionaire extravaganzas with hours of song dance sequences shot in some foreign countries..

I am uploading some of my favorite songs from the movie..

For those soft, soothing music lovers, this one is for you..

slumdog millionaire was nothing better than ur regular bollywood potboiler...n it had such an unconvincing storyline , tht too replete with factual errors..
n we shudn't get all excited abt all these awards n nominations doled out by the benevolent west..its more outta pity thn anythin else...thr's nothin more pleasin to western sensibilities thn to see 'exotic' india as a land of slumdogs n snakecharmers...n it ws such a sad sight to see someone like ar rahman fumblin for words at the golden globes...whn slumdog was miles off his best work...
unfortunately, the white man's approval is still somethin some of crave for..

Nithin, though I haven't seen the film, I care to say, " A global appreciation for an Indian work is due for a long time now and the world is not so fair to readily handover the award to the work that exactly deserves it. Let's be positive about what's happening."

The music is soothing.

Razigan,
dude, u've got it all wrong..lets get one thing straight.. it was never an 'indian' work..it is a true blue hollywood production, with a scottish director, n an English lead protagonist...looks like seein anil kapoor on the screen has got u all excited abt it being a desi film..
n talkin abt global recognition, whr does it say tht the oscar is one? it's just hollywud appreciating its own, with an occasonal bone or two thrown in btwn to keep the rest of the world intrstd..n it seems they sure r doin a gud job at tht..

Am I glad that at least another fella Indian loved watching the movie the way I did? If you get time you can read my post on it too...http://fourseasonsoflove.blogspot.com/2009/03/slumdog-millionaire.html

I tell you I loved the movie and I really can't understand y people feel so offensive about it and worried about the Oscars...we as viewers hardly bother about Oscars or for that matter any movie awards anymore...after all our own country went ahead and gave away the prestigious Padmashree to Aishwarya and Akshay...YUCKS!!!

i wont comment on the movie.. but on rehman winning the oscar for music..
pls renuka.. u know better than me.. his earlier work like roja, may madham, rangeela, taal, rang de basanti.. or for tat matter even the recent dilli6..was of much higher quality than the stuff he has done in SDM..
in fact i just recently saw rehman featured in a video of "jai ho" which has been remixed by pussy cat dolls!!!!!(wat was rehman thinkin??!!!)
i rest my case.
:))

@rahul: what i meant was rahman has done great with the music in the movie..but i am not saying that this is his best composition or anything..Even i hrd the "jai ho" remixed version...that is horrible...they have destroyed the whole song...
